How to Care for Your Bouquet Before Preservation

The single biggest factor in how beautifully your flowers preserve is what happens in the first day or two after your event. Here's the care routine we send every Save the Bouquet client.

Do: handle gently and move fast

• Handle with care. Petals bruise and tear easily — carry the bouquet upright and avoid crushing it in a bag.
• Ship or drop off within 24–48 hours. The sooner your flowers reach us, the more color and shape we can save. All flowers should reach us within about five days of your event.
• Follow the instructions we send. After you order, you'll receive care and shipping/drop-off instructions specific to your piece.

Don't: refrigerate or freeze

It feels intuitive to put flowers in the fridge — don't. Cold storage causes wilting that can make blooms unusable for preservation. Room temperature, out of direct sun, is best.

What if my flowers are already dried?

We can still help. As long as flowers aren't molded and are in reasonable shape, we preserve older and already-dried flowers using different techniques — many memorial pieces start exactly this way.
